Le
origini di Liveri sono incerte, le sue terre furono sicuramente
abitate in epoca romana come testimonia il materiale archeologico
rinvenuto. Alcuni autori tra cui Ambrogio Leone fanno risalire
la fondazione del paese al momento in cui gli abitanti del
vicino Borgo di Cicala, ritornarono in pianura dopo le invasioni
barbariche. Fu casale di Nola, feudo della famiglia Mastrilli,
e in seguito della famiglia Barone. Liveri è stato
da sempre un frequentato luogo di culto, per la presenza
del santuario di S. Maria a Parete, costruito nel XVI sec.,
in seguito alla apparizione della Vergine ad una giovane
pastorella di nome Autilia Scala. Un incendio di natura
dolosa, la notte del 29 gennaio 1989, ha distrutto in parte
il santuario: si conserva ancora il tempietto della Madonna
affrescato da Belisario Corenzio, mentre sono andati perduti
importanti dipinti del' 500. A
historical outline
The
origins of Liveri are doubtful: in fact some authors believe
it dates back to the moment of the goths' and of Alarico's
invasion (V century), when the Nolans, escaped from the
town,should have found the small town; some others say it
was found by the inhabitants of Cicala in the Middle Ages,
and some more others in a more remote age, immediately after
Hannibal's siege in Nola in 215-214 b.C., by the plebeian
faction who wason the side of Hannibal. Liveri has always
been a weell patronized place of worship, above all after
the creation of the sanctuary of S. Maria A Parete, built
in the XVI century, for the apparition of the Virgin to
a young shephered lass and deeply wanted by the Orsinis
from Nola. Unfortunately the night of 29th Jannuary 1989,
because of an arson, the sanctuary has been destroyed, and
only the small temple of the Virgin survived, while have
been destroyed all the most important paintings which adorned
the church. The Sanctuary has been rebuilt by the faithful's
offers.
